Tollygunge
Tollygunge is a locality in south Kolkata, and is a part of South 24 Parganas. It is considered amongst the most sought-after neighbourhoods of the city. Englishman Richardman Tolly developed this area. The Adi Ganga, which was once a waterway to East Bengal, flows through here. It is surrounded by localities such as Golf Gardens, Kudghat, Bansdroni, and Ranikuthi. It is flanked by the Eastern Railway south suburban line to the north, Lake Gardens and Golf Green in the east, the Paschim and Purba Putiaries in the south, and Behala in the west. Connectivity Tollygunge boasts of excellent connectivity to the various parts of the city via an intensive network of roadways and railways. Mahanayak Uttam Kumar is its own metro station, while it also hosts a tram depot of itself, from trams to Kalighat depart. Tollygunge Railway Station is located on the Budgebudge section of the Kolkata Suburban Railway. The thoroughfares of this area include the Deshpran Sashmal Road, and the NSC Bose Road, which connect it to the adjoining localities such as Bandroni, Garia, Narendrapur, Kalighat, Bhowanipur, Rabindra Sadan, etc. It is served extensively by both public and private buses. The Railway Junction is at a distance of 18.5 kilometres, while the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport lies 26 kilometres away. Real estate Though mostly a saturated area, Tollygunge has some real estate projects on the cards. At least 10 builders are working on properties in this area. Social InfrastructureThere are numerous government and private educational institutions in this area, some of which are ranked the best in the city. The top schools include Future Foundation School, The Assembly of God Church, G.D. Birla Centre for Education, Maharishi Vidyamandir, Miranda High School, Narmada High School, etc. The reputed colleges around this area are Calcutta Institute of Engineering and Management, NSHM Knowledge Campus, Jogesh Chandra Chaudhuri College, Netaji Nagar College for Women, Charuchandra College, Jogamaya Devi College, to name a few. RSV Hospital, MR Bangur Hospital, Metro Railway Hospital, Lions North Calcutta Hospital and Medical Centre, AMRI Medical Centre, etc. are the reputed healthcare centres in the vicinity.
