Home Advertising Tips for the First-Time Seller

There is a lot of info out there about buying a house for the first time, but there is not nearly as much about selling for the first time. The first time selling your home can be just as scary as your first time buying, and you want to do everything you can to ensure you get the best price. One of the most important things when selling your home is advertising it properly. Here are some tips on how to do that.

Work with a real estate agent

Many people blanch when thinking about that commission they have to pay when selling through a real estate agent, but you get a lot of value for the money you spend. A professional from a company like Pruitt Miller Realty Group will work tirelessly to make sure your home is advertised widely, including putting a sign in a prominent place in your yard, listing your home on his or her firm’s website and listing it in the local Multiple Listing Service. Real estate agents often promote your house on social media sites as well.

Improve your curb appeal

One way that you “advertise” your home without even trying is by having it seen by people who pass by. When your house is for sale and has that sign in the front yard, how your home looks from the outside is one big advertisement for potential buyers. So it’s important that you work to boost your home’s curb appeal. Regularly perform maintenance tasks such as mowing the lawn, watering, pulling weeds and picking up trash and debris. You also want to make sure you fix any issues that could reflect poorly on your home. That can include replacing bare spots in your lawn, trimming overgrown shrubs and trees, painting your trim and repairing cracks in concrete.

Get the word out yourself

Though your real estate agent will be working hard to get the word out about your house, you should, too. Use your social media accounts to tell people you are selling your home and link to your real estate agent’s webpage. Tell friends, family and co-workers about your home for sale and ask if they know of anyone who is looking to buy.

Making sure you advertise your home properly is a big step in getting it sold. The more people who see it and the better the impression you make, the more likely you are to sell quickly and for more money.
