Assuming the basics have been covered (you already have a bed, a couch and a dining table – those are the biggest and usually the most expensive pieces of furniture), you can start working on decorating your place. However, a bunch of nice little things can cost you a fortune if you are not careful and don’t plan ahead. Here are some tips for you to stay within your budget:
-
Check out garage sales in your neighborhood: you will be surprised what great pieces you might find there for cheap.
-
Search on Craigslist. In many cases people post ads for what they sell for just a couple of bucks, or give away for free – all you have to do is pick it up!
-
Don’t try to get everything you need at a time. Plan your budget: there are things you can live without for a while. It’s nice to have new table cloth for you table, or new aroma candles. But these things also shouldn’t dig a hole in your wallet. Make a list of things you would like to have, and prioritize them, and keep an eye on sales and coupons.
-
Don’t be afraid to check out a few fancy or even luxurious stores. Go there to get ideas of what you like. And then spend some time finding equivalents in more affordable places.
-
Enjoy the process. Let little things make you happy!
