It’s late in the season, but you still need your air conditioner to give its last hurrah. The following are five of the most common late-season air conditioner repairs you may need:
1. A Coolant Leak
One thing that you may need your local AC repair company to do is refill the coolant. You may notice one day that your air conditioner is no longer blowing any cold air out of it. That may be due to a low level of Freon. A low level of Freon indicates a leak, so your best bet is to call a reliable AC repair company and allow the technician to find the leak. You can save yourself a lot of money for the rest of this season and for next season.
2. Broken Motor
You may notice one day that your air conditioning unit is not cooling properly, and you may notice that you are experiencing some humming sounds, as well. The humming sounds almost always indicate that your condenser is bad. You will have to call a specialist to replace your condenser, but it will be worth the work so that you have your unit ready for next hot season.
3. Frozen Coil
Another common problem that happens to people’s air conditioners is that they get frozen evaporator coils. The evaporator coils get frozen because dirt gets in the filter. When dirt gets in the filter, the air cannot get to the coils. They then freeze and cause the coil assembly to get ice all over it. Another reason that some coils get frozen is that a leak exists in the sealed system. The system leak will require the assistance of a certified technician. You need to have a refrigerant leak fix as quickly as possible.
4. Malfunctioning Wiring
The wiring in your AC unit can cause a wide variety of problems such as circuit breaker stripping, failure to get power to the unit and more. If your air conditioner does not turn you, you will want to first check to make sure you have it connected to an electrical outlet. You can check all of the fuses and the circuit breaker, as well. If you cannot get it to start, then you will need to call a capable AC tech to come and help you with it. It is always best to hire licensed and certified techs to install an air conditioning system.
5. Bad Thermostat
One of the most common signs of a bad thermostat is an inadequate temperature output. A window AC unit will seem to never cool a room properly. A home AC unit may cool one room more than it cools another. Those problems indicate a bad thermostat, and you should contact an AC repair company about that as quickly as possible.
When you contact a provider, you have every right to ask that provider to show you his or her licensing so that you know you are getting services from a reliable firm. Keep the number to any provider that graces you with good work and honest price quotes.
