Carpets are becoming highly preferred choice as flooring materials in residences as well as in commercial areas. Soft, plush carpets are not only great to look, but they provide comfort to the feet as well. The only problem with carpets is that they are high on the maintenance factor. They have to be cleaned and taken care of regularly so that they retain their appeal and beauty.
Many people clean carpets at home with the vacuum cleaner only. However, that might leave dust particles, dirt and debris trapped in the threads of the carpet and they are difficult to remove with normal vacuum cleaning. This is the reason it becomes important to seek assistance from professional companies offering carpet cleaning services. These companies implement different kinds of carpet cleaning techniques, which help in thorough cleaning of the carpets.
Different kinds of carpet cleaning techniques used by carpet cleaning companies
Basically companies that clean carpets choose various kinds of ways of dealing with the problem. The main categorization is – dry cleaning and wet cleaning. While dry cleaning involves using foams and chemical powders applied by specialized machines; wet cleaning involves hot water extraction and cleaning with absorbent pads. Special pads, cylinders and counter rotating brushes are used for thorough cleaning of carpets.
Hot water extraction cleaning
Popularly known as steam carpet cleaning, this carpet cleaning procedure uses high pressure hot water for agitating the carpet fiber and dissolving the trapped dirt in the carpet. The cleaning agent is applied on the dirty carpet thoroughly and let to soak in the carpet for some time. Then the carpet is agitated with a brush so that the stubborn dirt and dust particles become loose and come out. Finally the carpet is thoroughly rinsed. After rinsing, the carpet needs to be dried completely before being placed for use again. Specialized driers are used for drying carpets so that each fiber dries completely right till the roots. If you are planning to steam clean your office carpet, it is recommended to do the same during late afternoon so that the carpet can dry throughout the night and be ready for use the next morning.
Foam encapsulation is a dry carpet cleaning technology that is implemented in many places. In this process synthetic detergents are used as a kind of base on the carpet. The detergent generally crystallizes into powder form when it dries up. The dust and dirt particles that remain loosely on the carpet get encapsulated into the powder and dries up. Use a brush or a vacuum cleaner for cleaning the foam after it dries and becomes powder like. Generally this dry cleaning process of carpets is accepted in places where the carpet needs to be cleaned in a small span of time. Eco-friendly chemicals are used in this process as the chemical residue formed is less. However, the only drawback of this cleaning technology is that it is not suitable for cleaning heavily soiled or dirty carpets.
Dry carpet cleaning
Also known as compound cleaning, dry carpet cleaning is the most adopted method for cleaning carpets in residences as well as in commercial areas. Along with effective cleaning, this process does not required additional drying time. Different kinds of carpet cleaning powders and compounds are available in the market, which are used for dry cleaning carpets. Usually the cleaning powder or compound is applied towards the bottom part of the carpet. A motorized counter rotating brush machine is used for opening the carpet fibers. This leads to settling of the cleaning compound inside and when cleaned it extracts the dirt and dust from the innermost fiber roots. Biodegradable compounds are used in making of the cleaning compounds so that they are not harmful to the environment.
Bonnet cleaning of carpets is mainly used for regular carpet maintenance and cleaning. For this process the carpet is first vacuumed thoroughly so that the loose dust and dirt is removed from the surface of the carpet as much as possible. Once that is done, an electric spraying device or a hand pump is used for spraying a chemical solution on the carpet surface. This chemical is left on the carpet surface for some time so that it is absorbed well as it extract out the dirt effectively. Next a bonnet or absorbent pad is placed on the drive block of rotary floor machine. The machine is rotated on the carpet surface at 100-300rpm. The carpet fibers are impregnated with the cleaning solution and later the absorbent pad soaks up all the dust and dirt. The only thing is that the top layer of the carpet is cleaned with this technique. Deep cleaning is not attained.
Choose the carpet cleaning technique that is most suitable for your carpet’s needs.
