If your moving day is creeping closer and closer, chances are you’re starting to feel stressed about it. No matter what you do, moving house is never going to be super-fun and stress-free. Still, if you start planning on time, you’ll be able to make it a bit easier. Here are 5 simple tips that are guaranteed to help you.
Label all the boxes
Now, this is something you’re going to find in every moving manual – and for a good reason. Knowing exactly what’s in each box will make unpacking much easier and save you a lot of time. If you’re not the one who will be carrying all the boxes, you can also number them so that none of the boxes get lost in the transit. You can also label the boxes according to the room where the items in it will be kept. That way, you can carry each box straight to the desired room.
Seize the opportunity to purge
A fresh start also means you get an opportunity to get rid of some of the things you no longer have any use of. Therefore, when packing, you can organize all of your belongings and put all of the things you don’t need in a separate box. There are plenty of things you can do with items from that box – you can hold a yard sale, put them up for sale online or donate them. And without all those things, you will have a lot more free space.
Make your unpacking kit
Unpacking can sometimes be even more difficult than packing. That’s why having an unpacking kit can come in handy. All you’ll need to set up a kit like this is an empty box and the things you’re going to need to open boxes and install appliances in your new home. We’re talking about items, such as scissors, a box cutter, paper towels, a hand soap and basically anything else you can find useful once you enter your new home. Just make sure you pack this box last and know exactly where it is once you arrive.
Choose the right moving company
Chances are you won’t be able to put all the things you’re bringing into your new home in your car. And this is especially the case if you’re bringing your furniture and kitchen cabinets. Luckily, there are plenty of companies that offer truck rental services and can help you with almost every aspect of your move. Not to mention that most of these companies have trucks of any size, which means if you’re moving a long distance, there will be no need to make more than one trip.
Protect your valuables
No matter how careful you are, some things can break in the moving process. Having said this, you’ll want to protect all of your valuables before the moving van arrives. If you own expensive china or an old set of glasses, make sure you use bubble wrap to keep them all safe. And when it comes to ordinary glasses and other breakable things, old newspapers should do the trick. Also, if you’re bringing your PC with you, it’s always a good idea to copy all the family photos and other important files to a portable hard drive.
Follow all of these tips and you’ll make your moving day as stress-free as possible. Once everything is in your new home, you can take as much time as you want to arrange and decorate it. And before you know it, your new house will start feeling like a real home.
