Autumn is the excellent time for spending your time in the garden, you can see the soil containing the warmth before the winter comes, and this is the right time for planting trees and also performing some “Do It Yourself” themes at your garden to have a proper maintenance without costing much.
Autumn Preparation Checklist
You need to start your preparations before the winter arrives, let’s check out some of the autumn preparation checklists you need to start your garden.
Cleaning Up
The first thing on the checklist is to clear out all the debris, dead plants, twigs etc from your garden and throw away it in the compost heap, make the garden borders and check all the plants, whether you need to remove some of their stalks or branches. If you think the plants have died do not add to the compost.
Raking all the leaves in the yard is the next steps; keep them safe as you can use them to develop leaf mold which is the generic organic matter to the soil. It’s good if you have three compost bins as the autumn can help in spreading the stored compost that keep your garden active and fed through the winter. The three compost can be used for freshly started ones, matured ones and another one for the compost that is ready to use.
Do you have a greenhouse? Then it’s important that you take care of the shelving as there are chances of insects for looking a place at your compost or garden for spending their winter, so your path make it open for few days until it get dried, remember of the greenhouse gutters, this is the main reason for getting clogged and thus prevents the water drainage from roof.
Check out the ponds in your garden, it should be clear from debris, fallen leaves etc as this can clog up pumps or filters. For clearing out this leaves and other dust particles from your garden, you can use any type of leaf blowers like Walk behind Leaf Blowers, Handheld Leaf Blowers, and Backpack Leaf Blowers etc, choose it as per your garden.
Prepare
Once you have cleaned your yard, now you need to make the preparation for the autumn. The first thing you need to focus is your lawn, cut them lower as usual you does as winter helps the soil to dry rapidly in the spring season, you can make use of the spring-tined rake to clear out the moss and thatches from your lawn.
If your garden is in any of the play areas or high traffic places, then it’s usual that the soil getting compact and thus prevent it from the drainage and aeration, another method for preventing is placing holes in the soil around 10 cm and now it will become looser, and this will protect your lawn.
Once you have cleaned the garden beds, tie up the borders and tilled the soil to apply the manure that is well aged over it. Mulching is another method for keeping your plants from freezing, use thatches or any dry organic material for performing this.
Plant
Once you have cleared and prepared for the autumn, now it’s time to plants. Move over the garden beds and move the plants to the proper position, cooler air and the warm soil make your plant grow perfectly; you can decorate your garden with the help of the bulbs and add color for the pleasant look.
