On paper, our bedrooms are not that different from the rest of our home, at least when it comes to the choice of furniture. Sure, you need a cozy and spacious bed where you’ll sleep, but that’s about it, right? Not really. Bedroom is a place where you should rest and regain strength for the battles of tomorrow. Therefore, every element should serve one basic purpose – providing optimal comfort. So, let’s see how to make that one extra step and choose the furniture that will turn your bedroom into a soothing paradise.
Ideally, your bedroom should feature a small walk-in wardrobe, or at least a multi-functional wall-to-wall piece that won’t disturb the natural flow of the room. Alternatively, you can compensate for the lack of a proper wardrobe with the inclusion of dresser drawers. If so, make sure that they have enough room for anything ranging from socks to bulky sweaters. Also, if your bedroom is not that big, it is in your best interest to find a piece that can host a TV, mirror, or a few items for some other purpose.
As you’ve probably learned by now, every opportunity to squeeze a bit more functionality out of the furniture should be used, and bedside tables are no different. If you can equip them with a drawer or a shelf where you’ll keep your books and magazines–great. Bedside tables are also small and inconspicuous enough to be used as details that will break the monotony of the style and introduce a sense of dynamic energy into your bedroom.
His Majesty, the bed
The bed is a crown jewel of your bedroom, so if the space allows you, always go for the king size. Of course, it’s entirely possible that you’ll need some extra space for your legs if you’re a tall person, so you can always choose a California king-sized bed. The frame of the bed should be sturdy and, if possible, with a low platform. This way, getting in and out will be considerably easier. As for the mattress, memory foam is certainly the most comfortable option.
A headboard will give your bedroom a very luxury feel, but it’s not a necessary addition. If you do buy one, make sure it’s in neutral color, so you can experiment with the bedding later.
Every bedroom needs one, and the dresser drawer looks like the prime suspect for its location. If you are going with this option, keep in mind that the bed and drawer need to be facing each other while still allowing enough space to walk in-between. However, we suggest that you simply find an experienced company like Install My Antenna that will do the wall-mounting part and leave you more freedom to play with the furniture layout. You can keep some smaller piece that will hide the cables below, though.
These freestanding cabinets provide so many configuration opportunities that it would be a real waste not to include them in your bedroom. A perfect place to store your excess clothes, books, DVDs and magazines, smaller armories can also double as bedside pieces, or even be a perfect place for your TV.
Chairs, lounges and sofas
Of course, you can always use your bedroom for something else other than sleeping. And truly, if you are living in a crowded house, bedroom does look like a safe haven you can always escape to. Therefore, feel free to add some additional sofas, chairs or any other pieces you see fit. However, these pieces should not compromise the bedroom’s primary purpose. If they do, it would be better to set up your reading nook somewhere else.
We hope that these few tips will help you to finally assemble the bedroom you deserve. Only then will you be able to sleep the sleep of the just and charge forward into the new day ahead of you.
