Installing Flashing for Chimneys:
Installing the shingle around the chimney is the first step that you have to follow while working around a chimney. Now start laying a base of flashing in an appropriate manner around the end of the chimney. Use nails for attaching the flashing to the area and apply cement wherever the need for attaching flashing. Now attach the flashing that you can see at the top part by fitting it with 1-inch of the gap. The gap between flashing and shingles would be then sealed with the cement you have already prepared.
Installation of the vent pipe is very easy as you first have to place the upper part of the pipe below the shingles. It would extend the lower part of pipe on top of the shingles keeps it exposed to air. Now lift the shingles just about the vent pipe and then start sliding the upper part of vent flashing underside. Seal the area between the vent flashing and the shingles with the membrane. Use galvanized nails for attaching the vent flashing with shingles and ensure the security of flashing through applying silicon.
Buy a valley flashing of v or w shape and make a waterproof membrane is an important step before applying valley flashing. Direct the underlayment of flashing with a manufacturer and then make sure that the valley flashing is at the top side of the area. The flush and the drip edge of flashing should be at the lower side of the valley at the time of laying it on the roof. Use tip snip for trimming it and then use nails for attaching the flashing with the surface to the surrounding part.
Installing drip edges is the last part that you have to follow once you have installed valley flashing. Nail it underside of builder’s felt and then cover the area with cement.
