Moving houses can be exciting but it can also get equally stressful. From packing your stuff in boxes to calling a moving company to move your furniture and appliances, the process can get quite difficult. If not planned properly, things can get awry.
It will be stressful and time-consuming but your moving process can be a lot less so if you find ways to get organized. Keep in mind, you have a lot of things to transfer from one place to another, it’s only essential that you plan ahead in order to minimize the stress.
Make your moving process a lot smoother and more tolerable. Here are ways that can save you time, effort, and stress for a more efficient moving process.
Prepare your packing materials
Before you begin taking out the stuff in your cabinet and putting it in boxes, make sure you have everything prepared and organized. Preparation is key to make moving a breeze.
Organize all your belongings and label each box accordingly. This will make the packing and unpacking process fast and easy. Plus, the movers won’t have a hard time loading your stuff in the truck when you have your stuff neatly set and good to go.
In addition to that, to avoid pointing fingers and misplacing any packing materials, prepare your storage boxes and packing materials (i.e. scissors, packing tape, etc.) beforehand. Put it in a handy designated box or container for easy keeping and finding.
Contact a moving company
It’s nice to have friends who are willing to help you move your stuff, big or small, to your new home. However, movers can be of greater help in transporting large furniture and fragile goods. Ask for recommendations from your friends and family, make sure the moving company is credible and reputable to make sure they’ll take good care of your things and offer worthwhile services.
Make a list and check it twice
This is a no-brainer. Make an inventory and checklist of your items as this will help in organizing your things and determine which ones could be disposed of so there’ll be no need to bring every single thing to your new home.
Labels will save your time
Organizing means having to label every storage box and containers that come out of the door. We’re not talking about lazy labels such as “misc” or “Andy’s stuff”, you need to be more specific. Andy can have lots of stuff and there can be up to dozens or more of miscellaneous things you’ll lug into your new home.
Be more specific in labeling so when unpacking time comes, you won’t have a hard time rummaging through boxes after boxes looking for the 1 of your 5 labeled “miscellaneous” items.
Don’t forget to inform every one of your change of address
Failure to this will not only inconvenience them but also yourself. Apart from your family and friends, inform your company, service providers, bank, and other important people and organizations as well. You should give them a heads up before you move out. Doing so will allow them and you to schedule connection cuts according to your move out plan and reconnect you to your new address.
