No matter how beautiful your property is, a messy lawn can be a big put off. Why rely on lawn mowing experts when you can do the job equally well, in fact much better. Understanding how to mow your lawn like a pro is highly essential and requires dedication and patience. Here are some lawn mowing tips to make you a lawn mowing pro!

Tip #1 – Know when to mow
Knowing when to mow your lawn is very important. There are several factors on which it depends like period of the year and the quality and quantity of fertilizer used. Ideally, you should cut your grass once it about 4 inches in height.

Tip #2 – Cut high, do not cut the grass too low
Always follow the one-third rule when mowing your lawn. Ideally, the grass should be trimmed depending on its type. For instance, warm season grasses like Centipede grass are mowed shorter, whereas cold season grasses like Kentucky bluegrass are mowed between 2-4 inches.

Tip #3 – Keep the blades optimally sharp
If the razors are sharp, the grass will be cut uniformly and give a neater appearance. Blunt blades tear the grass instead of trimming it and give it a shabby look. Improperly cut grass also results in loss of water and diseases.

Tip #4 – Cut the grass regularly
It is important to cut the grass frequently to avoid overgrowth. During early summers and springs, mow your lawn every 4-5 days as the growth is maximum during this time. As the summer season arrives in full swing, the growth of the leaves gets retarded due to heat and loss of water. During peak summer months, you can cut the grass every 7-10 days.

Tip #5 – Alternate the mowing map
Lawns that are mowed on the same route every time develop deformed grass growing patterns with uneven growth. To avoid this, it is important that you keep alternating the mowing direction every time you mow your lawn.

Tip #6 – Be patient, Haste creates Waste
If you wish to learn how to mow your lawn like a pro, then patience is the key to success! Don’t hasten the mowing process as you can miss large patches of grass. Keep your lawn mower at an optimum speed and make sure you do not miss out any spots.

Tip #7- Keep the lawn mower away from trees
Trees and lawn mowers must be kept away from each other. If you have trees in your lawn, ensure that you do not mow anywhere up to 4 feet near the tree’s trunk. Mowers can create severe harm to the tree’s delicate tissues and retard their growth.
