Summer is here, and let’s face it, organizing your closet is just as important as purging all those dust bunnies. We all have dreams about closets that can maximize our wardrobe potential and keep our clothes neatly organized. Don’t dream about your perfect closet anymore! Start doing something about that right now!
Even if you don’t have a walk-in closet already, there are small but significant upgrades that you can install in order to make the most out of your closet, so let’s take a look at some of them.
Add light
Lighting is incredibly important, and the first thing you should do is install it. Bright white lights will allow you to see much better what’s in your closet, especially if you have a closet carved out of space far away from natural light.
Install LED lights in your closet because they don’t radiate heat and waste energy, and they also feel and look more natural.
Make it seem bigger
Placing a mirror on your closet certainly won’t make it bigger, but it will create an illusion of a much larger room. Pick a big mirror that can fit on the doors of your closet and install it. A full-length mirror is also important for seeing how the outfit comes together when you put it on.
Decorate
Your closet can have its own ‘’soul’’, just like your room. Cute closet decorations and a rug can make a real statement, and they can also make you feel more comfortable while choosing what to wear.
Pullout Hooks
Some people avoid adding pullout hooks to their closet because they think the hooks take up too much space. While that is true, pullout hooks are still a must-have for any organized closet. They’re essential for keeping your clothes ironed, organized, and ready in case that you need to go on an unplanned trip quickly.
Add shoe shelves
If you’re keeping your shoes in the closet, organize them right now by putting them on shelves! Arranging shoes by heel height and color establishes visual harmony. You can also add hooks to your closet if you want to hang tall boots.
Add a seat
Trying on different outfits can be exciting, but it can also be incredibly tiring. A small inbuilt bench is a perfect add-on for any closet. Trying on shoes will become much easier with a seat in the closet!
Paint your closet
Use bright colors such as light blue, white, and green to make your closet appear significantly bigger. Make sure to use non-toxic paint. Paint toxins usually come in the form of VOCs (volatile organic compounds), so look for natural and low-VOC paints.
Add sliding doors
Unlike hinged doors, sliding wardrobe doors provide easy access. Never again you’ll have to open and close multiple doors just to reach your favorite shoes or a dress. You’ll also be able to reach every nook and cranny without making a mess in the closet.
Add a vanity
If you have drawers in your closet, consider adding a vanity station on top of them. Mount a small mirror on the wall, place your jewelry on display, and maybe put perfume bottles and lipsticks on it. By adding a vanity you’ll be able to do your make up after you’ve dressed up, and in the long run, you’ll save a lot of time.
Don’t forget to organize your clothes before redecorating your closet. Make a list of all things in it, and throw away any pieces of clothing you have not worn in years. By doing so you’ll create more space in the closet, and you’ll have an excuse to buy new dresses and skirts.
