After buying a new house, it can take some time to adjust to your new space. Here are seven tips to help you feel more at home instead of getting overwhelmed by all of the boxes.
1. Unpack
Unpacking all of your boxes is a daunting task; however, it is necessary to make your new house feel like home. Unpacking and finding a place for everything will help bring back familiar sights, while helping you get settled in.
2. Get to Know Your Neighborhood
It can be difficult to adjust to a new place to live and the new neighborhood. Get out and explore your new neighborhood (and city if you are moving far from your last place). Getting to know some of the gems of your new area will help you feel more familiar with your location and hopefully prevent you from getting lost in the future.
3. Light Candles
Lighting candles will make your new house feel more cozy. Using scents you are familiar with will also remind you of where you used to live and make it a little easier to settle in. Plus, who doesn’t love the smell of warm cookies, apple cider, or clean linens?
4. Unique Art
One way to make a new space feel like yours is to put some unique art on the walls. Whether that means your favorite poster, vinyl sticker quote, or painting, hang a piece that you love. To bring additional warmth into your home and a little piece of the outdoors, try a pressed flower original art design.
5. Go Grocery Shopping
Going grocery shopping will instantly fill up your refrigerator, pantry, and kitchen cupboards to make your house feel like you live there. While shopping, go ahead and stock up on other essentials besides just food (like toilet paper, tissues, shampoo, etc.). With food in the house, you won’t be tempted to get takeout.
6. Focus on One Room at a Time
Don’t get overwhelmed by unpacking and decorating every room in the house! Prioritize your time and focus on making one room cozy before moving onto the next one. We recommend starting with the living room or your bedroom to make sure you have a place to escape.
7. Invite Your Friends Over
Throw a housewarming party after you have unpacked and started to organize your new home. Inviting friends over can give you the motivation you need to keep unpacking, while also helping you create new memories in your space.
