Trends come and go. That chevron pattern that used to be the ‘it’ statement of a home decor or design is now regarded as an outdated style that needs to fade in the dark. Who knows when it will resurrect and become a big thing once again. As of the moment, let’s keep the outdated trends behind and open our doors to the latest and timeless ones.
If you’re currently redecorating your home, it’s helpful to know the latest and always-in-style trends to keep your space updated and looking stylish. Before you head to stores for materials and decorative knickknacks, here are the overused home decor trends you should avoid at all costs and lay it to rest:
Painting everything white
Don’t take this in a bad way: white never goes out of style. Also, who wouldn’t want to come home to an airy space that instantly lifts up your bad mood? White walls, white sofa, white coffee table, white everything—these can look more dull than timeless in the long run.
Allow your personality to color your space. If you want to stick to the neutrals, no problem, at least give the room a hint of color and character. You could opt for a bold-colored sofa against your white or neutral walls, patterned throw pillows on it, and display a statement piece.
Chalkboard walls make an amazing accent especially in a kitchen or a kid’s wall. Going further from that only make a space look tacky and a classroom. Think about how much chalk dust will accumulate and how dreadful it would be to clean.
Ditch the chalkboard walls and stick to the tried and tested note-taking for your kitchen lists which you can keep in a hanging roll or on your fridge.
Barn doors have been other homeowners’ alternative to regular doors for their bedroom, wardrobe cabinet, and the works. It might seem nice and a good change at first but it sure has a definite shelf life—it won’t be a trend for long.
Barn doors won’t stay trendy for long. Save yourself a lot of cash: instead of shelling out for a barn door, allocated that money on your other priorities such as your kitchen top or other decorative pieces.
Giant letters spelling out “LOVE” or any other inspirational word; your name or initials, doesn’t really do anything as a decor. Sure, it had its moment in the past but it no longer does today.
Instead of big letters that serve no purpose or real meaning, opt for a unique piece of artworks that can transform your walls from dull to alive. Art never goes out of style.
Bricks in the fireplace, bricks in the bedroom
Bricks are one way to go for making a statement wall from fireplaces to your bedroom wall. But like any other trend, brick walls won’t last long. In fact, it’s dying down and by the end of this year, we bet it’s a thing of the past by then.
Mason jars for anything
Admit it: either you have a few mason jars laying around you use as glasses, containers, or for decorative purposes, or you want to get one for exactly the same reasons. Mason jars were overhyped and you can conveniently spot them in a new and artsy restaurant. Maybe it’s best to keep the trend there and not extend it in your own home.
