Maintaining your yard can be a hassle. But having a nice yard can increase the curb appeal of your home and make your house seem more inviting. Plus, you don’t want your house to stick out as a sore thumb in the neighborhood. Cleaning up your yard can be simple if you follow these tips.

1. Clean up debris

The first step to cleaning up your yard is to pick up all the debris, including leaves, weeds, trash, etc. If there are items in your yard that don’t belong there, get rid of them or put them away! Getting rid of excess debris and junk can make a huge difference in the aesthetic of your yard. If you have too much junk to haul away yourself, try contacting a junk removal service.

2. Trim branches

After you have cleaned up the debris, it’s time to start looking at the state of your landscaping. Trim up trees and bushes that have completely lost their shapes and have rogue branches. Not only do these branches look bad, but they could actually fall and damage other plants in your yard or even your house.

3. Weed your flower beds

The next step is to weed your flower beds. Weeds are a sign that you aren’t taking care of your yard and they make your flower beds look unkempt. Weed the flower bed and lay down mulch or pine straw to help the beds look refreshed and to keep weeds from growing in the future.

4. Prune trees and shrubs

Not only do you need to trim rogue branches, but you need to prune your trees and shrubs. Pruning helps give life to your trees and shrubs, so your landscaping will really take shape. Not all your trees and shrubs will need to be pruned, but it’s a step you shouldn’t forget.

5. Mow

Mowing your lawn might seem too simple, but a mowed lawn helps improve the look of any yard. Of course, you can only mow after you have picked up debris and trash from your yard. When you mow, don’t cut more than the top third of the grass blades because a dramatic cut could shock the grass.

6. Clean the deck

If you have a deck, it might look dirty and faded. Try giving the deck a good power wash and removing clutter. Once the deck is dried and clean, stain it with a waterproof stain to help it look refreshed and to protect the wood from moisture damage.
