Moving to a new home is both exciting and stressful. Exciting in terms of coming home to a completely new space and stressful in terms of packing, moving, and organizing your stuff from one place to another.
The biggest challenge of all when moving or simply revamping your space is the decorating part. When you’re cutting corners but don’t want to decorate only for your space to end up looking as if it was done with zero budget at all, you have to be more resourceful and creative with what’s already at hand.
If you’re currently in this situation, we’re here to help you out and prevent you from overspending or splurging when it’s unnecessary. Here are a few ways you can decorate without making a dent in your bank account:
Work with what you have
Before you head to the home department stores or thrift shops, take a quick scan around the space and evaluate what you have already. Think a side table will help balance the room? You already have one! Still, have a sturdy coffee table but afraid it looks too worn out now? Sand it and repaint it!
Prioritize what you need
If you really need to buy something, what would be on the top of your wishlist? Note that it should be something that you really need, not just something you want. Would you rather have new throw blankets or another vase that will end up covered in dust?
If you can, DIY!
Get your crafty hands working and stamp your creativity and personality in your own space. There’s nothing more visually pleasing than seeing your own project as a household accessory. On the plus side, it’s a fine way to improve a space with little to no money involved. If you need some inspiration, go to Pinterest or Instagram to get that creative juices flowing.
Bring your greenery inside
You can never go wrong with some fresh cut flowers from your garden transferred into a vase to put up on display. Houseplants are the ultimate no-fuss and surefire way to elevate any space. You can ask friends if they can hand you one or from their own succulents or you could grow one yourself.
Take advantage of hand-me-downs!
One of the simplest ways to fill your new home or transform your space is to get without spending anything is accepting hand-me-downs from family or friends. Ask if one of these people have a few stuff they want to get rid of and see if you can incorporate these pieces in your own space. You may score some antique bookshelves or quirky finds from them.
