Minimalism is not only a way of life, but it is also a design style with very similar concept to the original meaning. “Minimal” at the core means stripping down to the bare necessities – the lesser the better. Minimalistic design is where we get rid of unnecessary decor or other elements that are deemed ‘extra’.
Because it holds true to simplicity, there are many firm believers of the principle and there are many that favor this style of design, especially for their homes. Often it has the simplest wall treatment, simplest shapes, and so it all comes down to light and dark – which in many cases, minimal houses often open themselves up to allow in as much natural light as possible. When all these characteristics are combined together, it makes for a clean, free, and open interior that are often associated with freshness. Who doesn’t want this right?
Here we present to you some examples that can inspire your attempt to being a minimalist!
1. Rumah Duren Tiga by aldo felix studio
This house has a minimalistic interior and is designed by Aldo Felix. The furniture in the house is also carefully chosen, especially with the colors that stick to neutral tones – whites, blacks, greys, and wood. As a result, the house has a warm and cozy feeling to it.
2. “Less Decoration” by John Pawson
John Pawson is very well known for his minimal designs, so this is just another one of his famous works. In this particular property, he only puts what is needed for a room to become a living room: seating, tables, lighting and fireplace – and that’s it. He pairs bricks with wood and soft surfaces, making it an extremely comfortable space for lounging.
3. Minimal Kitchen by Inerre Interior
In this example, Inerre managed to design a minimal kitchen by getting rid of the handles on the cabinets. With a matte laminate on the cabinetry, the kitchen becomes very inviting and makes you want to cook more.
4. A Clean Room
One of the easiest ways to make a space minimal in an instant is to give it a sense of cleanliness. What does it mean? Tidy up the space! This Japanese style dining room is so tidy that it looks minimal and posh at the same time. The presence of wood makes it feel warm as well.
